Enthalpy Game Coming Soon to SEGA Dreamcast! Also to PC, if you're into that kind of thing.

Posted by NAveryW Jan. 3, 2009 @ 6:48 PM EST

Enthalpy, the upcoming Flash series based on the characters from Of the Couch, McDarnold's, Raptor Lincoln, and the Nicholas' Weird Adventure games, is nearing the completion of its first episode (as in some time this year).

It is also set to become the first-ever (unless I've missed or forgotten something) Newgrounds animated series to get a commercial console game release! My SEGA Dreamcast game, tentatively titled Enthalpy Super Fun Adventure Game, Hooray!, is now officially estimated to be released by the end of February. You'll be able to order it online, pop it into your Dreamcast system, and... you know... play it. It features original old-school graphics (a "hip" way of saying deprecated 2D graphics that people today would consider "bad" but were considered "good" a decade or two ago), original music, and the same kind of comedy anyone who's seen my Flashes would expect. The disc includes three stand-alone episodes, each of which is about the length of Nicholas' Weird Adventure 2. Yeah, as far as console games go, it's rather short, but it's probably only going to cost eight to ten dollars.

You do have a SEGA Dreamcast.... don't you?

You don't. What are you, some kind of moron? How are you supposed to play this awesome game?!

Oh, right. You can also play it on your DOS-enabled PC. And if you don't have DOS, you can use FreeDOS or DOSBox. See, the game will run automatically on your Dreamcast, but if you don't have one, you can put the disc in your computer, copy and paste an included folder to your PC, and play it in DOS.

You'll buy the game, right?

You won't. What are you, some kind of moron? Oh, I get it. You're just going to wait until it's been pirated so you can download it online for free. Look, just because it's old-fashioned doesn't mean I didn't put a lot of work into this game. Don't think you-...

What? You don't want to play it at all? Then why are you even reading this?

What's that? You want me to stop making assumptions about what you're thinking?

No. Never.

That's going to be cool...
I don't know if I'll buy it or not though...

Wow, seriously? How are you going to put this together? Well I don't care, all I know is it's gonna be bitchin.

I don't know if you want to count alien hominid that got a spot as a PS2 game,
but yours would be the first based off a "series" like you said, and not a single game. But then again, how the hell did you strike a deal with sega?
(or if your taking a less ethical route)
how the hell did you program a couple hundred CD's for a dreamcast?
Well congrats, and be sure to make a swimming pool out of all that money.

Jan. 3, 2009 | 9:38 PM NAveryW responds:

I was referring to animations in particular. Alien Hominid and Defend Your Castle both have console games, but they weren't based on cartoons.

As of yet the game is planned to be released unlicensed, but that's not illegal or unethical at all. In fact, several unlicensed Dreamcast games have already been released. See, for example, Frog Feast, Last Hope, and Wind and Water: Puzzle Battles.

Of course I have a Dreamcast! I knew it would never die! I might buy it, I don't know

That's the spirit, sort of!

Two questions. One: is the FreeDOS safe to download in terms of viruses? Two: will it be like the Weird Adventure games in terms of gameplay, or will it be a whole new genre?

Either way, I'm surprised at everything you're accomplishing. You're making this game along with the one for the YouChew contest, a Flash series, and other small videos and artwork for fun (though those probably don't take very long). How do you do it? Did you clone yourself? Is there a growth doing half the work on your back? Am I also making crazy assumptions?

Jan. 3, 2009 | 11:24 PM NAveryW responds:

I've never actually used FreeDOS, as DOSBox works perfectly for me.

As for gameplay, I'm probably going to post some demo images/videos to deviantArt or YouTube soon that'll give viewers a good idea of what the game is like.

How do I do it all? When I get tired of working on something, I work on something else. I pretty much have no life.

wait, your making a game for the dreamcast? Your downgrading? Thats a first

Jan. 4, 2009 | 10:16 AM sontuk says:

I'd buy it, since I love your characters and stuff,
if I had money........
Sorry..........
Is it goimge to be 3d tho?

Jan. 4, 2009 | 1:20 PM NAveryW responds:

Nope, it's going to be 2D. I'm nowhere near advanced enough to make a 3D Dreamcast game unless I were to make it a DOOM or Quake mod (which is indeed legal if I make the source code available, but not something I'm currently interested in).

i have a sega dreamcast

and i will play your game if it looks good and is reasonably priced

Jan. 18, 2009 | 7:35 AM Spoony-McSpoon says:

Ah the dreamcast, what an awesome console. I loved my old dreamcast, it was just miles ahead the competition. Probably play in dosbox though just so I don't have to get my dreamcast stuff out from the cupboard and so I can use my 360 pad.

Unrelated but 'Link has a problem' got removed from youtube and I was wondering if it'd return as the setence mixing in it is awesome.

Is the game gonna be like that toast game you made for gameboy?
